IT-Chemistry Interface

PACE Microfluidic

The European Commission is supporting the Integrated Project PACE in its Future Emerging Technologies program that will create the foundation for a new generation of embedded IT using programmable, self-assembling artificial cells.

PACE is focussing on the IT potential of synthetic chemical cells: addressing both the technical opportunities of programming and producing them by connecting combinatorial chemistry via microfludics  with existing IT. Applications of these artificial cells will exploit their chemical distinctiveness from biological cells.

A consortium of some 13 partners and 2 cooperating groups from 8 European countries, including Switzerland and Lithuania, and several leading USA organizations are pioneering this new approach under the IST-FET section of the EU 6th Framework Program (FP6).

PACE is collaborating closely with the Los Alamos Protocell Assembly Project.
